This video premiered at the TEDxSydney 2015 conference and is about what happens when you open your heart to a stranger. Dr. Arthur Aron developed the ground-breaking social experiment while a research professor at Stony Brook University in New York.
Dr. Aron was looking into current research about love back when he was a young graduate student only to find there was almost none. So he took it on. In the nearly 50 years that Arthur has studied love, he has developed three dozen questions to create closeness in a lab setting. The result is not unlike the accelerated intimacy that can happen between strangers on an airplane or other close quarters.
Those 36 questions were recently popularized in various magazines and newspaper columns and have broken down emotional barriers between thousands of strangers, resulting in friendships, romance and even some marriages. You can try these questions with people with a date or people you already know well—friends, family members, even long-term partners—to deepen your ties.
